![]() ![]() I have read a bunch of rockstar books, none that contained a rapper and a country singer. When I read the synopsis it drew me automatically. ![]() I actually read it twice since writing this review, because the chemistry that Trace and Taryn shared was definitely explosive and hot. One thing’s for certain, the two media magnets can’t deny their explosive chemistry, but will life in the spotlight ultimately bring Trace and Taryn together or force them apart? The sparks fly and ignite a fire that blazes hotter with every minute they spend together-for better or worse. ![]() Their worlds collide when the musicians whose paths were never destined to cross are forced by their joint record label to collaborate on a song. Known as “America’s Sweetheart,” the reigning country music princess and world-renowned superstar knows exactly who Trace is…or does she? Taryn Starr is not the girl-next-door who unknowingly meets a celebrity. Trace is the hottest ticket in the music industry right now, regardless of which definition of ‘hot’ you choose. This is not your typical rock star romance. ![]()

![]() The purpose of the foreign legion was to remove disruptive elements from society and put them to use fighting the enemies of France. The direct reason for this was that foreigners were forbidden to serve in the French Army after the 1830 July Revolution, so the foreign legion was created to allow the government a way around this restriction. Being bad - so that they can then be reformed - can be tough as well, however - especially since, as Bean notes at one point, it can be catching.Īnother amusing entry in author Annie Barrows and illustrator Sophie Blackall's chapter-book series about second-grade friends Ivy and Bean, Ivy + Bean: Bound To Be Bad offers an interesting and somewhat unconventional take on virtue and vice, as seen by the primary school set. Being pure of heart is hard work, though, as Ivy and Bean discover, when confronting the neighborhood bully, Crummy Matt. There she finds her friend determinedly being good, under the impression that the pure of heart will attract the birds and the beasts - specifically, wolves - to her side. ![]() When Bean's day gets off on the wrong foot, and she finds herself consigned to doing the breakfast dishes (even though it isn't her turn), as punishment for licking her plate, as well as forced to pay Nancy for the yarn she has taken, she takes off for Ivy's house, hoping for a distraction from her troubles. ![]() ![]() ![]() Much of the book centers around the impact of their abandonment by their mother when he was a young boy, which we find out is closely connected to the Dutch House. I normally don’t like to listen to this kind of book, because I feel like I lose something by not being able to see the way Patchett uses words. It’s also, as the title suggests, a story of a house, one that brings together and breaks apart this family. This is a story that covers decades in the lives of a single family in Pennsylvania, from about the 50s to today, told through the eyes of youngest son Danny. ![]() This was only my second read by Patchett, after the excellent Commonwealth, and I was struck again by Patchett’s thoughtful development of characters and understanding of family dynamics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TAGS: Black hair, nuclear family, female lead, grandparents, Nneka Myers, hardcover And all other children will benefit from learning a bit more about black hair traditions, and how important it is to one’s identity.
